Over 41 new roads opened and 49 bridges constructed across Iraq
Hussein Al-Mousawi, Director General of the Department of Roads and Bridges, announced yesterday that the Department's projects extend across all regions of Iraq, noting that it also works in coordination with governorates on the implementation of a number of strategic infrastructure projects.
Al-Mousawi stated that during the past two years, the Department completed the opening of more than 41 roads in various governorates. These projects included the construction of ring roads around cities, the development of secondary carriageways, and the widening of existing road networks.
He explained that the total length of newly constructed roads reached approximately 1,000 kilometers, while maintenance work was carried out on 58 roads with a combined length of about 1,400 kilometers.
The Director General further revealed that the Department completed the construction of 49 bridges with a total length of nearly 40 kilometers, in addition to rehabilitating and maintaining 43 bridges spanning approximately 30 kilometers. He also highlighted the construction of seven tunnels with a combined length exceeding three kilometers.
Al-Mousawi emphasized that these projects have been distributed across different regions of the country based on local requirements and according to carefully developed plans prepared by the Department to improve transportation infrastructure and support economic development.
