In a humanitarian gesture underscoring its commitment to wounded veterans, the Department for the Care of Martyrs’ Families and the Wounded at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain responded to an appeal from a member of the security forces. The Department arranged his transport from Wasit Governorate to Karbala, enabling him to perform the visitation rituals at the shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) despite his quadriplegia.

Mr. Emad Al-Jash’ami, Head of the Department’s Media Unit, stated that the Department promptly responded to the veteran’s appeal and oversaw his transfer to Karbala so he could carry out the rituals of visitation.

He explained that the wounded veteran, Arkan, sustained his injuries while participating in operations to liberate the Makhoul Mountains in 2016. He had expressed a strong wish to visit Karbala and perform the rituals, which was met with an immediate response. A specialized team from the Social Care Unit—equipped with a modern ambulance—was dispatched to his residence in Wasit. The team ensured safe transport with a high level of medical care and comfort throughout the journey.

Al-Jash’ami added that the services provided by the Holy Shrine represent a modest expression of gratitude for the sacrifices made by such heroes. He emphasized that caring for wounded veterans like Arkan is a humanitarian, religious, and moral duty, reflecting loyalty to those who defended the homeland and its sacred sites.

The Department for the Care of Martyrs’ Families and the Wounded at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain is one of the key institutions dedicated to supporting the families of martyrs and wounded personnel. It provides a range of humanitarian and service programs, including healthcare, social assistance, and psychological support.
