Ministry of Transport announces landing of first European aircraft at Baghdad International Airport
The Ministry of Transport announced on Tuesday the landing of the first European aircraft at Baghdad International Airport following a 35-year hiatus.
In a statement monitored by Karbala Now News Agency, the ministry’s media office said that the flight represents the culmination of sustained efforts overseen by the Minister of Transport. These efforts focused on meeting operational, technical, and security requirements, as well as upgrading the infrastructure and readiness of Iraqi airports in line with international standards adopted by European airports.
The statement added that the flight operates on a regular Baghdad–Athens–Baghdad route, with two flights per week, and noted that the number of flights may be increased in the future depending on demand and passenger occupancy rates.
