The Engineering and Technical Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the anticipated opening of Al-Sibt Hospital for Digestive System Diseases and Liver Transplantation, the first specialized facility of its kind in Karbala.

Engineer Hussein Redha Mahdi, head of the department, stated that the project is progressing under the direct guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey. He confirmed that construction is advancing rapidly and in accordance with the highest international medical standards, while also incorporating architectural and aesthetic elements aimed at enhancing patients' psychological well-being.

The hospital, which spans 12,000 square meters and includes 100 beds, will be a specialized center for liver transplant procedures—a first for the governorate. Mahdi noted that the facility is expected to open its doors to patients by the end of this year, offering services to all Iraqi citizens without exception.

Al-Sibt Hospital will include essential departments such as operating rooms, intensive care units, endoscopy, ultrasound, MRI, and other advanced diagnostic and treatment services.

This project is part of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s broader healthcare initiative, which seeks to expand access to high-quality medical services across Iraq. By establishing hospitals that offer free or affordable treatment, the Shrine aims to ease the suffering of patients and reduce their need to seek costly or risky treatment abroad.
