On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine marked the 15th anniversary of the Imam Hussain Museum, coinciding with International Museum Day. The museum, located within the Holy Shrine, commemorates over a decade of preserving Islamic and Iraqi heritage.

Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abayechi, highlighted the role of museums in preserving cultural identity. “Artifacts express the heritage and history of nations. Our museum reflects over 1,400 years of legacy, rooted in the sacrifices of the Imams (peace be upon them). Each item carries a powerful story of steadfastness.”

Al-Abayechi emphasized that the museum is not only a cultural institution but also a medium for education and values. “It inspires visitors emotionally and spiritually, contributing to the cultural upbringing of future generations.”

Dr. Alaa Diya Al-Din, Head of the Museum Department, noted that the museum has welcomed over five million visitors over 15 years. He also announced the launch of the Al-Warith Museum Project, set to be built in the Al-Aqeela Courtyard. The new museum will span four floors and cover 5,000 square meters.

The celebration was attended by diplomats and officials, including Turkish Consul General in Najaf, Cafer Olcay Karakaş, who expressed admiration for the museum’s mission. “We value museums as reminders of the past and hope for future collaboration between Turkey and the Imam Hussain Museum.”

Established over 15 years ago, the Imam Hussain Museum features rare artifacts tied to the life of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), the events of Karbala, and broader Iraqi history—serving as a lasting testament to sacrifice, faith, and resilience.
