Ministry of Health: Iraq introduces advanced medical technologies surpassing regional standards
The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced on Sunday the introduction of advanced medical technologies that surpass those available in some neighboring countries, as part of its commitment to improving healthcare services and aligning with international standards.
Ministry spokesman Dr. Saif Al-Badr stated that recent efforts have focused on strengthening medical recruitment and bringing in foreign specialists to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad. “Only a few complex cases now require traveling abroad for treatment, and even these will decrease as local capabilities grow,” he said.
He added that within the coming years, reliance on foreign teams will be phased out as Iraqi medical professionals complete advanced training and begin performing specialized procedures locally.
Among the new advancements, the Ministry has installed a first-of-its-kind device for diagnosing blood cancers at Medical City in Baghdad, highlighting Iraq’s growing leadership in medical technology in the region.
Regarding hospital management, Al-Badr noted that the Ministry is pursuing both direct management by trained Iraqi staff and joint administration with international healthcare firms. This dual approach is currently being tested in several facilities with encouraging results.
“Iraqi medical professionals are highly skilled,” Al-Badr concluded, “and the Ministry remains committed to continuous development and modernization across all sectors of healthcare.”
