Threats against mosques and Muslim institutions raise security concerns across U.S.
A series of bomb threats, death threats and other acts of violence targeting Muslim communities and Islamic institutions across the United States has heightened security concerns among mosques and Muslim organizations.
A security bulletin reviewed by the Shia Muslim Foundation documented 38 reported threats and attacks involving Muslims and Islamic institutions between January and September 2026. The organization cautioned that the figure is not a comprehensive count of all such incidents nationwide.
In response, the foundation has urged mosques and Islamic centers to strengthen emergency procedures, maintain open lines of communication with local law enforcement and ensure that staff and volunteers are prepared to respond to credible threats.
The foundation also recommends that Islamic institutions document threats, preserve threatening messages and social-media posts, establish relationships with local law-enforcement agencies, and regularly review emergency response procedures. These measures are intended to strengthen preparedness and help institutions respond effectively to potential threats while continuing to serve as places of worship, community gathering and support.
