A new Quranic school has opened at a mosque in the Wadi Tlailat neighborhood of Oran, northwest Algeria, providing what is described as the area’s largest facility of its kind.

Named Asmaa Bint Umais, the school is located within a 400-unit residential complex and will begin classes immediately, with a focus on Quran memorization. It will serve residents of Wadi Tlailat and the wider municipality, Al-Diwan reported.

The school was established through the efforts of local residents and donations from philanthropists who helped complete its facilities. Organizers hope it will become a center for Quran memorization and religious learning.

Many residents attended the opening ceremony, welcoming the new institution and expressing their support for its educational and religious role in the community.

Algeria has a long tradition of Quranic education, with schools and mosque-based programs offering Quran memorization and religious instruction. Traditional maktabs remain important centers of learning, while imams, scholars and female Quran teachers continue to train generations of Quran memorizers.

The country has also expanded Quranic education through online initiatives, including programs serving Algerian citizens living abroad.
