Al-Daleel Foundation: A Decade of Intellectual Contribution
Interviewer: Abbas Al-Taee
In an era marked by rapid intellectual transformations and the intersection of competing narratives, Al-Daleel Foundation has emerged as a distinguished institution committed to the power of reason and knowledge, investing deeply in the development of conscious and informed individuals. Over the course of ten years of continuous effort, the Foundation has advanced an ambitious intellectual project aimed at promoting profound understanding and addressing the challenges of the contemporary world.
In this exclusive interview with Karbala Now, we speak with Dr. Saad Al-Ghari, member of the Scientific Council and Head of the Education Division at Al-Daleel Foundation, to explore the institution’s unique experience, its major milestones, the challenges it has encountered, and its aspirations for the future.
Karbala Now: To begin, Dr. Saad, we warmly welcome you and are delighted to host you. Could you first introduce yourself to our readers? We would also like to discuss the journey of Al-Daleel Foundation, which has now completed ten years of intellectual contribution. How would you describe this journey?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: Thank you for the warm welcome; it is a pleasure to be with you. I was born in 1973 and graduated from the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at the University of Baghdad. Later, I traveled to Qom to pursue religious studies. I subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Islamic Philosophy from the American University in London, in addition to another doctorate from Al-Mustafa International University.
Indeed, ten years have passed as though they were mere moments, yet they have been filled with both challenges and achievements. From its inception, the Foundation was established with a clear vision: to cultivate meaningful intellectual awareness and prepare a generation capable of conscious and critical thinking.
Karbala Now: Why was the Foundation given the name “Al-Daleel”?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: The name derives from the well-known saying: “We are the people of the guide (Ahl al-Daleel); wherever the truth inclines, there we incline.” This principle was embodied by Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) in both his words and actions.
In addition, one of the titles associated with Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) is Al-Daleel—meaning “The Guide”—in the sense of guiding people toward the knowledge and essence of God.
Karbala Now: What are the most significant milestones or memories you cherish from the Foundation’s journey?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: There have been many important milestones. Among the most notable are the launch of specialized educational programs, the organization of intellectual conferences, and the establishment of partnerships with academic institutions.
We are also especially proud of the many students who have graduated from our programs and gone on to become active and influential contributors within their respective fields.
Karbala Now: As Head of the Education Division, how do you evaluate the current state of education within the Foundation?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: We strive to provide high-quality education that goes beyond the mere transmission of information. Our focus is on developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
We place great emphasis on interaction and active student participation in the educational process, while continuously updating our curricula to remain responsive to contemporary intellectual challenges.
Karbala Now: What challenges have you faced in the educational sphere?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: One of the greatest challenges is maintaining a balance between authenticity and modernity, in addition to attracting young people to intellectual programs amid the overwhelming influence of digital media.
Nevertheless, we have addressed these challenges by refining our educational methodologies and integrating modern teaching tools and technologies.
Karbala Now: How do you view the role of Al-Daleel Foundation in confronting intellectual deviation?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: Our role is primarily preventive rather than corrective. We seek to promote a balanced intellectual outlook and strengthen awareness within society.
We do not confront ideas through condemnation or exclusion, but rather through scholarly, systematic, and constructive dialogue. This approach defines the essence of the Foundation’s mission.
Karbala Now: What are your future plans for the Foundation?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: We aspire to expand our educational initiatives, launch advanced digital platforms, and reach broader audiences—particularly among young people.
We are also working on developing programs aimed at preparing future intellectual leaders capable of contributing positively to society.
Karbala Now: Do you have a final message you would like to share?
Dr. Saad Al-Ghari: I encourage young people to prioritize the cultivation of genuine awareness and not to be satisfied with superficial information alone. Knowledge carries responsibility, and awareness is the foundation of meaningful and lasting change.
