The Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that the Najaf desert remains under the full control and surveillance of Iraqi security forces, affirming that all areas are secured in line with approved military and intelligence plans.

In a statement, the Ministry said the Holy Karbala Operations Command conducted a field tour of the Najaf desert to assess the security situation and verify reports circulated on social media regarding the alleged presence of unidentified military bases or suspicious movements in the area.

The tour was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, and several senior commanders and officers from the Ministry of Defense.

According to the statement, the inspection included a review of the deployment of security units and the measures implemented to secure the desert region as part of ongoing efforts to prevent security breaches and counter attempts to spread misinformation aimed at stirring public concern.

The Ministry stressed that there is no evidence of any unidentified military activity or facilities in the area, rejecting claims promoted by certain social media pages and media outlets.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the country’s security and stability and continuing its responsibilities across all operational sectors, emphasizing that “the reality on the ground remains the ultimate response to disinformation campaigns.”
