A conference was held at the historic Palace of Westminster, home to the UK House of Lords, to mark 100 years since the destruction of the Jannat Al-Baqi cemetery.

The event, organized by the Baqi Organization in collaboration with the Al-Khoei Foundation, brought together religious leaders, policymakers, and civil society representatives from diverse faith backgrounds, including Muslim and Christian scholars and public figures.

Speakers underscored the historical and spiritual importance of the cemetery, describing it as a significant religious heritage site for nearly two billion Muslims worldwide. They emphasized the urgent need to preserve and protect sacred sites from neglect and damage.

Discussions also addressed the historical context surrounding the cemetery’s destruction a century ago, alongside ongoing efforts to safeguard its legacy. Participants highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue and social solidarity in protecting religious heritage.

The conference further called for the use of legal and political channels to advance preservation efforts, including renewed appeals to permit women’s access to the site. Attendees stressed that protecting sacred places is a shared humanitarian and religious responsibility that requires broader international cooperation.
