68% complete: Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain advances Orphans’ School Complex in Dhi Qar
The Department of Engineering and Technical Projects at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain has announced continued progress on the Orphans’ School Complex in Dhi Qar Governorate, part of its broader humanitarian and development efforts to support vulnerable communities and provide a comprehensive educational environment for orphans.
Engineer Safwan Al-Safi, the department’s official overseeing southern region projects, stated that construction is moving forward steadily, with the first phase now 68% complete. He noted that work is progressing at an accelerated pace on the large-scale project, which spans approximately 31,000 square meters.
Al-Safi explained that the complex will include five multi-story school buildings, a dedicated kindergarten, administrative and service facilities, and a large multi-purpose hall. Each school is designed to accommodate more than 1,100 students, enabling the complex to provide free education for orphans from kindergarten through the end of secondary education.
He added that the project incorporates modern technological systems, including central cooling, smart surveillance, and internet connectivity. High-quality materials—such as marble, GRC, and Karbala tiles—are being used for the exterior, while interior finishes feature internationally sourced materials for flooring and paint. The design aims to create a safe, comfortable, and technologically integrated learning environment aligned with contemporary educational standards.
This project reflects the ongoing commitment of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, through its engineering and technical arm, to delivering high-quality initiatives that serve Iraqi society—particularly orphaned children—by providing a modern educational setting that supports future generations.
