Warith Al-Anbiya University leads Iraqi institutions in QS Sustainability Ranking 2026
Warith Al-Anbiya University, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, has achieved a significant academic milestone, strengthening its reputation among distinguished higher education institutions. The university has been included for the first time in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, placing it among only nine Iraqi public and private universities that met the criteria for this global ranking.
Hussain Hamed Al-Mousawi, Head of the Media and Government Communication Department at the university, told Karbala Now News Agency that the university ranked second among private universities and ninth among all Iraqi universities featured in the list—an achievement that he described as “international recognition of the university’s commitment to environmental and social sustainability, as well as strong academic governance.”
He added that this accomplishment builds on a series of successes. The university previously secured first place among Iraqi universities in the Athar Award for Sustainable Development, launched by the Ministries of Environment and Higher Education. It has also maintained outstanding performance at the national level: the Colleges of Engineering and Nursing ranked first in the ministerial evaluation exam among Iraqi universities, reflecting the strength of their academic programs and the advancement of their learning environment.
Al-Mousawi further noted that the Accounting Department at the College of Administration and Economics achieved second place, while the Business Administration Department ranked third among their respective disciplines in the ministerial evaluation—demonstrating the breadth of the university’s academic excellence.
He affirmed that this national and international recognition highlights the success of the university’s strategy in enhancing academic quality and developing programs aligned with both national and global accreditation standards. It marks an important milestone in the university’s pursuit of academic leadership.
