Imam Hussain Holy Shrine expands the Hussaini Camp to enhance its capacity for receiving pilgrims
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the expansion of the Hussaini Camp (Mukhayyam Al-Hussaini) following the acquisition of the adjacent Hussainiyah Al-Bahraniyya building. This expansion was carried out after obtaining all necessary approvals and reaching an understanding between the two parties in accordance with approved legal and administrative procedures.
The initiative comes ahead of the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), with the goal of accommodating the growing number of pilgrims and providing them with adequate space and essential services during the pilgrimage period.
The Head of the Hussaini Camp Department, Mr. Fadhel Abu Dakka, told the Shrine’s official website, “The Engineering Affairs Department, in cooperation with our department and the Maintenance Department, began preparing the Hussainiyah Al-Bahraniyya building after it was officially acquired by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, prior to the last Arbaeen pilgrimage.”
He explained that the previous structure was at risk of collapse and was therefore completely removed. The ground was leveled and reinforced with concrete, making it suitable for temporary use during the Arbaeen pilgrimage. “The 680-square-meter site was then carpeted with suitable materials, equipped with cooling and lighting systems, and provided with basic services to ensure the comfort of pilgrims during their stay — whether for prayer, Quran recitation, or participation in Hussaini ceremonies,” Mr. Abu Dakka added.
He further noted that two new corridors were opened to connect the courtyard of the Hussaini Camp with the newly added area, along with two dedicated entry and exit gates to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and better organize access to the holy site.
This development is part of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure surrounding the Hussaini Camp in preparation for welcoming millions of pilgrims, ensuring the provision of the best possible services and a comfortable spiritual environment for all visitors.
