Al-Abbas Holy Shrine launches special Muharram program in over 20 African countries
The Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department at the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine has launched its special Muharram program for the year 1447 AH across more than 20 African countries.
Sayyid Muslim Al-Jabri, head of the Preaching Unit at the department’s African Studies Center, stated, “This year’s Muharram preaching program is part of the awareness initiative Voice of the Free, which includes Hussaini mourning ceremonies, along with religious and cultural events in several countries, including Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Niger, and Liberia. The aim is to promote the humanitarian principles and reformist values embodied in the uprising of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).”
He added, “The program seeks to revive Hussaini rituals and deepen awareness of Imam Hussain’s revolution within African communities, using approaches tailored to each country’s cultural and linguistic context.”
Al-Jabri emphasized that through Voice of the Free, the center works to convey the authentic Hussaini message and strengthen its values in the collective consciousness of African peoples, presenting the cause of Karbala as a symbol of liberation and human dignity.
The Voice of the Free initiative is one of the department’s most prominent field projects, aligning with its strategic vision to expand religious outreach and commemorate major Islamic occasions worldwide.
