Saudi Arabia has lifted its 14-year suspension on Umrah pilgrimages for Syrians, allowing travel agencies to resume organizing trips without restrictions.
Mohammad Al-Bunni, part of Syria's tourism negotiation team, confirmed the agreement was signed with around 160 Saudi private firms during the Umrah exhibition in Medina.
Umrah trips will restart on the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah, with no cap on pilgrim numbers. Around 520 licensed Syrian agencies are now free to organize pilgrimages of any size.
For the first time, 35% of approved pilgrims are between ages 25 and 60, shifting away from the previous age-based selection that favored the elderly.
