Iraq announces readiness to host 2025 Arab Summit, vows to ensure its success
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s full readiness to host the upcoming Arab Summit, scheduled for May 2025 in Baghdad, and to provide all necessary conditions to ensure its success.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was revealed that Minister Hussein held a phone conversation with Libya’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour. The two ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Libya and to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest—serving the interests of both nations and promoting joint Arab action.
Minister Hussein emphasized the importance of reactivating the Iraqi-Libyan Joint Committee and updating existing framework agreements to reflect current developments and strengthen institutional collaboration between the two countries.
On regional issues, the ministers exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Both sides reaffirmed their countries’ steadfast support for the rights of the Palestinian people, underscoring the urgent need to halt military escalation and protect civilians.
The conversation also touched on ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit. Minister Hussein reiterated Iraq’s commitment to ensuring a successful summit, stating that Baghdad aspires for the event to serve as a meaningful platform to promote Arab unity and foster regional dialogue.
In response, Minister Al-Baour expressed Libya’s appreciation for Iraq’s active role in advancing Arab causes and praised the preparations underway for the summit. He reaffirmed Libya’s support for Iraq’s efforts and voiced confidence in Baghdad’s ability to host a summit that will contribute to strengthening Arab solidarity and fulfilling the aspirations of the Arab peoples.
