Human Rights Watch calls for global pressure to lift Gaza siege

Human Rights Watch accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war against Gaza's residents, warning that many Palestinians could die from malnutrition and dehydration if the siege continues.

The organization urged the international community to pressure Israel to lift the illegal blockade, restore electricity, and allow the entry of essential supplies like food, water, fuel, and medical aid to protect civilians. It cited Gaza's Coastal Municipalities Water Unit, which reported that fuel reserves would only sustain water facilities for another week, threatening to halt water production.

HRW also noted that thousands of Palestinians have likely died from hunger, dehydration, and disease due to the blockade. The organization condemned Israel's actions as war crimes and violations of international law, citing the blockade’s ongoing restrictions on aid since March 2, 2023.

As the crisis deepens, HRW calls for greater international pressure to end the siege and deliver critical humanitarian aid to save lives.
