Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, received an Egyptian medical delegation led by Professor Amr Ahmed Abdel-Aal to explore prospects for medical cooperation in liver transplantation. The visit aimed to assess the hospital’s medical capabilities, modern equipment, and infrastructure, as well as evaluate the preparations needed to perform liver transplant surgeries in the future.

According to a statement obtained by the official website, the visit included an inspection of the hospital’s available medical resources, advanced equipment, and infrastructure. The delegation also assessed the hospital’s readiness and the requirements for establishing an integrated medical environment for liver transplantation, a highly specialized procedure that requires qualified medical personnel, advanced technical capabilities, and state-of-the-art technologies.

The statement noted that the visit provided an opportunity to examine the operational requirements of liver transplantation and discuss ways to develop advanced medical services, helping identify the necessary conditions for performing these procedures in the future.

It added that the visit forms part of broader efforts to strengthen medical cooperation, exchange specialized expertise, and benefit from international experience in organ transplantation. These efforts aim to improve the quality of healthcare services and expand the hospital’s specialized treatment options.

The initiative also aligns with the Holy Shrine’s strategic vision of developing its affiliated healthcare institutions, strengthening their medical and technical capabilities, and providing advanced treatment services that meet patients’ needs, particularly in specialties requiring highly qualified medical teams and sophisticated equipment.

The hospital’s initiative builds on its previous achievement of performing Iraq’s first two simultaneous liver transplant surgeries, highlighting its experience and capabilities in complex surgical procedures.
