Grand Ayatollah Sayed Ali Sistani has expressed his condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Sayed Mousa Shobeiri Zanjani, describing the death of the prominent religious scholar as a painful loss and profoeund bereavement.

In a message issued on Monday, Ayatollah Sistani praised the late scholar’s lifelong dedication to scholarship and teaching, describing him as one of the distinguished scholars and pillars of the Qom Seminary and an exemplary divine scholar.

He said that Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani’s scholarly works and religious services constitute a valuable and lasting legacy, while his conduct and personal example will continue to serve as a model for scholars.

Ayatollah Sistani extended his condolences on the loss to Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), the Islamic seminaries, the family and relatives of the late scholar—particularly his sons—and the wider community of believers.

“I pray to God Almighty to grant everyone beautiful patience and abundant reward,” he said.

Grand Ayatollah Sayed Mousa Shobeiri Zanjani, a prominent Shia religious authority and source of emulation, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

His funeral and burial ceremonies are scheduled to take place in the holy city of Qom, where he will be laid to rest near the shrine of Lady Fatimah Al-Masouma (peace be upon her).
