Illinois mosque opens doors to promote understanding of Islam
A mosque in Meadows, Illinois, welcomed community members to an open house aimed at helping people learn about Islam firsthand and fostering greater understanding between Muslims and their neighbors.
Hosted by the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs in partnership with GainPeace, the event featured presentations on Islamic beliefs and practices, mosque tours, and opportunities for visitors to ask questions and engage in dialogue.
Organizers said personal interaction is one of the most effective ways to address misconceptions about Islam. Dr. Sabeel Ahmed of GainPeace spoke about the basics of the faith and addressed common misunderstandings, including perceptions surrounding Muslim women and the hijab.
Guests also enjoyed traditional food, henna art, and Arabic calligraphy while learning about Islamic culture and traditions.
Attendees said the event highlighted the importance of dialogue and education in overcoming misinformation and building stronger community connections. Organizers noted that people of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to visit the mosque and learn more about Islam throughout the year.
