A rare handwritten copy of the Holy Quran dating back to 1843 is currently on display at the Holy Quran Museum in Mecca as part of a distinguished collection of historic manuscripts and artifacts presented to the public in the Hira Cultural District.

The manuscript is notable for its elegant calligraphy in black ink, complete vocalization marks, and richly decorated pages framed with gilded borders. Gold rosettes separate the verses, while intricate floral motifs reflect the advanced artistry and craftsmanship that characterized Quranic manuscript production during the nineteenth century.

The manuscript also demonstrates meticulous attention to the organization of the Quranic text. Markers indicating the ajza’ (parts) and ahzab (sections) are clearly incorporated throughout the pages, illustrating the efforts of scholars and scribes to facilitate recitation, memorization, and study while preserving the manuscript's artistic beauty.

According to information accompanying the exhibit, the Quran underwent careful restoration and rebinding to protect it from deterioration. These preservation efforts have helped safeguard the manuscript as an enduring testament to a rich cultural and civilizational heritage spanning more than 180 years.

The manuscript forms part of the museum's broader collection, which enables visitors and pilgrims to explore the history of Quranic transcription, manuscript production, and ornamentation across successive Islamic eras through a diverse array of rare manuscripts and historic printed editions.

The Holy Quran Museum has become one of Mecca's leading cultural and educational destinations, highlighting the centuries-long efforts undertaken by Muslims to preserve and transmit the sacred text. Through modern exhibition techniques and interactive educational displays, the museum deepens public appreciation of the Quran's historical legacy and strengthens visitors' connection to the rich heritage associated with Islam's holy book.
