The Warith International Foundation for Oncology, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, has received a second Algerian child diagnosed with retinal cancer. This development follows the Foundation’s successful treatment of its first Algerian patient in recent months, further reinforcing its growing regional medical reputation.

Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Abidi, Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority, stated that “the Warith International Foundation for Oncology has welcomed a second Algerian child suffering from retinal cancer, following the successful treatment of the first Algerian case at the Foundation during the previous period.”

He explained that “the child arrived to continue her course of treatment after the positive outcomes achieved by the Foundation’s medical teams with the first Algerian patient. This reflects the increasing confidence in the advanced medical and specialized services provided by the Foundation to patients from within Iraq and abroad.”

Dr. Al-Abidi further noted that “high-precision interventional tumor procedures, along with cerebral catheterization operations, are conducted at the Al-Hayat Center for Interventional Radiology and Cerebral Catheterization within the Warith International Foundation for Oncology. More than 200 complex and specialized procedures have been successfully performed to date without the need for direct surgical intervention.”

He added that “this year, the Center became an accredited training center for the Arab Board, offering physicians specialized training in advanced procedures—particularly delicate interventions involving the brain—through modern interventional radiology techniques. The program aims to qualify physicians for specialized postdoctoral fellowships in this field.”

According to Dr. Al-Abidi, “this achievement represents a significant scientific and medical milestone for the region, with hopes that this specialized discipline will expand to other Arab countries in the coming years.”

The General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain continues, through its specialized medical institutions, to strengthen both its therapeutic and educational services by adopting the latest medical technologies and employing highly qualified specialists. These efforts contribute to advancing patient care and reinforcing Iraq’s position as a regional center for medicine and scientific innovation.
