Al-Zahra University for Women, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, has achieved a major academic milestone by securing 296th place globally in the WURI 2026 Rankings for university innovation, placing it among the world’s top 500 universities.

University President Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani stated that the achievement reflects the university’s growing academic reputation and expanding international presence. She noted that the accomplishment was made possible through the continuous efforts of the university’s academic and administrative staff.

Dr. Al-Sultani explained that Al-Zahra University ranked first among Iraq’s private universities and third nationally in the WURI 2026 rankings, following the University of Babylon and the University of Basra.

She added that the WURI ranking is considered one of the leading international university rankings because it evaluates institutions based on innovation, entrepreneurship, and their real impact on society, rather than relying solely on traditional measures such as research publications.

According to Dr. Al-Sultani, the achievement represents a significant step forward for the university, strengthening its regional and international standing while opening broader opportunities for academic partnerships, research collaboration, and attracting distinguished scientific talent.
