Staff of the Water Treatment Stations Unit in Basra Governorate—affiliated with the Maintenance Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine—continue their efforts to operate and maintain water treatment facilities, supplying large quantities of potable water to residents amid the ongoing water scarcity affecting several districts of the governorate.

The head of the department, Engineer Abdul Hassan Muhammad, stated that the unit’s staff are working continuously to maintain and operate water purification plants and ensure the delivery of clean drinking water to local communities.

He explained that these efforts are being carried out in line with the directives of the Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, and the Secretary-General of the shrine, Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayechi, with the aim of easing the hardships faced by citizens and ensuring access to safe, purified water.

Field teams continue to distribute thousands of liters of water daily to residential areas, as well as to government institutions and public hospitals, as part of a humanitarian initiative aimed at reducing the impact of the water crisis and improving health and living conditions in Basra.

According to the department, the campaign is conducted on a daily basis in coordination with local authorities to ensure the sustained provision of sterilized drinking water and to support public health and service stability across the governorate.
