Al-Abbas Holy Shrine begins restoration project for manuscripts of Al-Askariyain Holy Shrine
The Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department at the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine has begun a project to restore manuscripts belonging to the Al-Askariyain Holy Shrine.
Director of the Al-Fadl Center for the Preservation and Conservation of Manuscripts and Documentary Archives, Mr. Laith Lotfi, stated that specialized teams have started restoring the first batch of manuscripts from the Al-Askariyain Holy Shrine. He explained that five rare copies of the Holy Quran, previously preserved in the shrine’s library treasury, have undergone conservation and restoration work.
Lotfi added that the project involves a series of precise technical procedures, including cleaning the manuscripts, stabilizing fragile pages, repairing partial damage, and digitizing the materials. These steps will help preserve the manuscripts while also facilitating easier access for researchers and specialists.
He noted that the initiative forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to protect manuscript heritage and documentary archives, ensuring they remain a valuable scientific and cultural resource for researchers, historians, and those interested in the history of Islamic civilization.
