The Expansion Projects Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the completion of the first phase of foundation works for the Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba Courtyard Project, which covers an area exceeding 2,725 square meters.

Head of the department, Engineer Hussein Redha Mahdi, stated in an interview with the shrine’s official website that the first phase of the foundation work was successfully completed through the dedicated efforts of the department’s engineering and technical teams, along with continuous on-site supervision to ensure the highest standards of quality and technical precision. He noted that this achievement paves the way for the start of the next stages of construction.

Mahdi explained that the implementation plan was carried out with high precision and divided into two consecutive phases to guarantee optimal technical control and construction quality.

He added that the first phase included the pouring of 1,250 cubic meters of reinforced concrete, followed by the second phase with 926 cubic meters, completing the foundation pouring for the entire area of more than 2,725 square meters.

According to Mahdi, all work was executed in accordance with approved engineering specifications, with meticulous field monitoring to ensure proper foundation levels, accurate distribution of reinforcing steel, and appropriate concrete curing processes. These measures provide a strong structural base for the upcoming construction phases.

The Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba Courtyard Project is considered one of the largest expansion initiatives within the Imam Hussain Shrine complex, reflecting the shrine’s vision of combining precise engineering planning with direct field implementation. The project also demonstrates the commitment of the shrine’s technical and engineering teams to executing expansion works according to the highest standards of quality and safety while continuing to serve the millions of visitors who come to Karbala each year.
