Challenging phase completed: Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain announces completion of the first phase of the Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba Courtyard project
The Expansion Projects Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain announced the completion of the first phase of the Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Courtyard project, which constitutes the second stage of the shrine’s major expansion.
The head of the department, Engineer Hussein Redha Mahdi, stated that current work on the project includes soil preparation, insulation works, and the laying of a gravel layer, alongside the completion of the drainage system, in preparation for initiating the first stage of foundation construction. He noted that the first phase—comprising the retaining wall—has been successfully completed, describing it as one of the most challenging phases of the project.
Mahdi explained that the Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Courtyard project forms the second part of the overall expansion of the Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) Courtyard, with a total construction area of 100,000 square meters.
He emphasized that the project is among the key initiatives undertaken by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain to accommodate the growing number of visitors and to ease congestion during pilgrimages that attract millions.
The project falls within a comprehensive strategic vision adopted by the Holy Shrine to enhance infrastructure in line with the increasing influx of pilgrims, meet service and organizational needs, and provide a safe and suitable environment for religious and service activities during major pilgrimage seasons.
