Imam Hussain Holy Shrine introduces advanced tumor diagnosis and treatment technologies in Iraq
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop healthcare infrastructure and enhance the quality of medical services, the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain has announced the introduction of advanced medical technologies to serve patients in the holy city of Karbala.
The head of the authority, Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, stated in an interview with the shrine’s official website that the Health and Medical Education Authority has implemented cutting-edge medical technologies aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes for patients.
Dr. Al-Abadi explained that the authority has deployed a mobile PET scan unit—the first of its kind in the Arab region—marking a significant advancement in the precise diagnosis of tumors and complex diseases. In addition, the authority has introduced the latest generation of CyberKnife radiosurgery systems, which enhance the effectiveness of cancer treatment while reducing the need for patients to seek care abroad.
He noted that the adoption of these advanced technologies is part of a comprehensive strategic vision focused on localizing specialized medical treatment within Iraq and providing healthcare services in line with the highest international standards, under the supervision of highly qualified medical professionals.
Dr. Al-Abadi emphasized that these services are offered with direct support from the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, reflecting its humanitarian and social responsibility. This initiative ensures access to advanced medical care for a broad segment of the population, particularly vulnerable groups, through subsidized services that consider citizens’ living conditions.
He further pointed out that the authority continues to implement development programs in both medical technology and human resource training, in accordance with the Holy Shrine’s mission to serve humanity and safeguard health and dignity.
These initiatives are part of an integrated approach adopted by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain to strengthen Iraq’s healthcare sector through investment in modern technologies and the expansion of specialized medical services. This approach contributes to enhancing national health security and reaffirms the shrine’s role as a leading institution in delivering advanced, compassionate healthcare that prioritizes human dignity and well-being in accordance with the highest professional standards.
