Pakistani President: Iraq plays a pivotal role in strengthening regional security

The Iraqi Presidency’s Media Office announced that President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and his delegation on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar.

The statement said the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between the two friendly nations in service of their shared interests.

President Rashid highlighted the need to deepen friendship with Pakistan and coordinate on issues of mutual concern, stressing efforts to consolidate stability and achieve sustainable development in the region.

The two sides reviewed recent international and regional developments and underscored the importance of supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue to reinforce international peace and security.

President Rashid called for an end to the aggression against Gaza and urged the international community to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. He praised Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and its defense of the Palestinians’ legitimate rights and aspirations for statehood.

Both presidents discussed the summit’s agenda and expressed hope that its resolutions would advance social development regionally and globally.

President Zardari expressed appreciation for Iraq and its people, affirming Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and commending Iraq’s pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability.
