Over four million pilgrims commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him)
The General Secretariat of the Al-Askariyain Holy Shrine announced that more than four million pilgrims gathered in Samarra to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Al-Askari (peace be upon him), under comprehensive security, service, and health arrangements.
In a statement received by Karbala Now News Agency, the Secretariat confirmed the conclusion of the pilgrimage ceremonies, which drew millions of visitors from across Iraq and abroad. The event was marked by a powerful display of devotion and loyalty to the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), creating a spiritual atmosphere of reverence and unity.
"The pilgrimage was a great success," the statement noted, "thanks to the tireless efforts of the shrine’s departments and staff, with significant support from other holy shrines, government ministries, security and service institutions, Hussaini processions, and dedicated volunteers."
The statement also shared key statistics highlighting the scale and coordination behind the event:
1. Pilgrim Attendance: Over 4 million pilgrims arrived in the holy city of Samarra.
2. Volunteer Support: More than 4,190 volunteers from various Iraqi provinces participated, along with 100 volunteer organizations.
3. Processions and Service Stations: A total of 1,240 mourning processions and volunteer service stations contributed to serving the pilgrims.
4. Media Coverage: The shrine provided media services to over 95 satellite channels and media outlets, hosting more than 220 journalists and media professionals from within and outside Iraq. Services included live broadcast support, filming permits, and the operation of an advanced media center.
5. Institutional Participation: Approximately 60 service, security, and medical agencies took part in executing the event’s operational plan.
Thanks to this high level of coordination and cooperation, the pilgrimage plan was successfully implemented. Pilgrims were able to perform their rituals with ease, and all measures ensured their safety and smooth departure from the city to their home provinces.
