Kurdistan Region commemorates Ashura with ceremonies sponsored by Imam Hussain Holy Shrine

The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine organized a mourning ceremony in the Kurdistan Region to mark the anniversary of the tragedy of Karbala. The event, held in Erbil, was attended by the Shrine’s regional representative, Sheikh Ali Al-Qarawi, and drew a large crowd from diverse backgrounds, reflecting a shared sense of solidarity and grief.

Sheikh Al-Qarawi expressed pride in the broad participation, stating, “We are honored by the significant turnout for the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). Holding Ashura ceremonies in Erbil is a powerful expression of national unity among the diverse components of the Iraqi people.”

He extended his gratitude to the administration of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, to His Eminence Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, and to the Ministry of Endowments in the Kurdistan Region for their support in facilitating the event and ensuring its success.

Al-Qarawi noted that the Ashura commemoration in Erbil will continue for ten days and will include religious lectures, spiritual guidance, educational programs, and the distribution of meals to participants.
