Spain has called for a worldwide arms embargo on Israel in an effort to halt the war and worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“We must all agree on a common arms embargo. The last thing the Middle East needs right now is more weapons,” Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said at the opening of a ministerial meeting of the Madrid Group in the Spanish capital.

Albares also urged an immediate suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, a move currently under discussion in Brussels. He added that sanctions should be considered against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if necessary.
