Chaldean monastery delegation commends Al-Abbas Holy Shrine’s role in preserving Iraq’s heritage

A delegation from the Chaldean Antonian Hormizd Monastery in Erbil, known for its work with manuscripts, visited the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine to explore its efforts in the preservation, restoration, and cataloguing of historical manuscripts.

The delegation toured the Library and House of Manuscripts and affiliated centers within the Shrine’s Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs. The visiting group included Dr. Samer Surisho Yohanna, head of the Monastery; Mr. Youssef Younou Sam'an Ajam, director of the Syriac Manuscripts Library; Mr. Matthew Hikmat Hosseini, an expert in restoration and image enhancement; and Mr. Fadi Sabah Dawduka, a specialist in photography and digitization.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed the Shrine's advanced techniques and equipment used in manuscript preservation and discussed avenues for future collaboration between the two institutions.

The delegation praised the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine for its professional capabilities, valuable manuscript holdings, and skilled personnel, describing it as a source of pride and an important center for safeguarding Iraq’s cultural and historical heritage.

They expressed appreciation for the warm reception and detailed overview of the Shrine’s work, and affirmed a strong interest in future exchanges and cooperation to share expertise and further preserve Iraq’s intellectual legacy.
