The Oman Airports Management Company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Teebat Karbala Company, the investor behind the Karbala International Airport project, to oversee the preparation, setup, and initial operation of Iraq’s newest and most significant airport development.

The agreement was signed in the presence of representatives from both Oman and Iraq, underscoring the growing partnership between the two nations. It aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation, advance the civil aviation sector, and enhance airport infrastructure in line with modern international standards.

Under the terms of the agreement, Oman Airports will deploy a team of technical, administrative, and operational experts to Karbala for a period of 15 months. This team will be responsible for equipping the airport, supporting its early operational stages, and training local staff to ensure efficient and internationally compliant operations.

Karbala International Airport is one of Iraq’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Strategically located between the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf, the airport features state-of-the-art technology and a modern architectural design. In its first phase, it is expected to handle up to two million passengers annually, with capacity projected to grow to six million in the second phase and ultimately reach 20 million passengers in the final phase.

The involvement of Oman Airports reflects the company’s strong capabilities and extensive experience in airport operations. With a proven track record managing six airports across the Sultanate of Oman, the company is well-positioned to provide the technical and administrative expertise necessary to ensure the success of the Karbala International Airport project.
